   A chair of his time
like contemporaries Charles and Ray Eames, Jacobsen wanted to create chairs that had mass appeal and would suit people living in small newly built houses.

"I based my work on a need: what chairs are needed," Jacobsen said. "I find that people needed a new type of chair for the little kitchen-dinette sets found in most new buildings today, a little light and a cheap chair. At the same time, I was the one that can also be used in dining halls as a stackable chair. It can be stacked by inserting the chairs in the other, therefore saving both time and energy "
