It also marks the beginning of busy sports schedules, sessions homework and other school projects. Needless to say, this is the time of year when I am always looking for new and innovative ways to make our home better function.
One common question around our house is to find a place where children can study without disturbance. This year I decided to be proactive. I found the place most quiet of the house (storage room), pulled together pieces of furniture that I had and added some spirit of tinkering to finally create an area of homework that looks inviting and organized .

This is the formerly empty basement. As our children outgrown their toys and we updated our furniture, the storage area of the basement became packed with forgotten items. I removed all the clutter, but kept the parts that could be reused for my children.

for example, we had an old dining table that has not been used in years. There was a lot of history with our family dinners holiday Wednesday and artistic projects - so I did not chuck. I also found an old, large dollhouse that my father built when I was a child and my daughter had long since passed.

Armed with these key elements, I have to work. Instead of adding drywall, I painted the walls of the existing basic manufacturer stamped concrete to resemble the brick years. He gave the region a lot of character and it seemed finished without the need to add drywall expensive. We then had the high quality carpet and an insulated false ceiling installed for heat and noise control.
After the basement has been finished, this area has become the perfect place for my area of responsibilities. To start, I gave the old dining table a layer of black paint and the dollhouse stacked on top of it. Together, the function of these two pieces as a desk with a hutch. If you do not have a dollhouse, you can use any library or small shelving unit instead. Small and medium sized libraries can be purchased cheaply second-hand shops and art.

For the seats, I caught two more dining chairs which were used only during the holidays. Now they offer comfortable seating for our new station duties. Black and white chairs work perfectly with the white dollhouse and the new black finish on the table. Using a pattern of black and white colors unifies all mixed and matched. It also allows us to introduce different accent colors we want. For now I'm using bright, bold turquoise. I love the way he plays on the red brick walls. Striped lumbar cushions are our summer outdoor cushions that are brought in at the end of the season. Instead of storing for the winter, we will use them to keep children sat wide during their study sessions.

For the style of dollhouse, I create the playful art by placing a photo and inspirational quote Albert Einstein within former executives I updated with a new layer of the same black paint I used on the table.

I marked supply-filled wicker storage baskets from a craft store with chalkboard labels purchased from an office supply store. Natural texture softens baskets black and white high-contrast pattern. blackboard tags are a fun decorative element that are also easy for children to know what is inside each basket. Our youngest is not large enough to reach the top of the doll's house, so I placed his supplies in a tray on the desk.
